Interview with Andreas Dürr the director of the short movie DISCONNECTED HEAD

1.Tell us about your movie, where did the idea of this movie come from?
I started to experiment with an animation style I used for the storyboard of my previous short film, where I used simple silhouettes to pre-visualize my shots. I developed this look further and realized that I could do the shots very fast. Which allowed me to get the whole film made in a few months on my own. I knew that I wanted to tell a story in a dystopian setting. I started to write a script for the short film, but I was never happy with what I wrote. At one point I just started to create one of the shots and went from there. I didn’t know how the story would end or begin. As I made one shot after the other it became clearer where I wanted to go. The theme of the film was subjectivity and perception of reality. It is about how we often see our perception and perspective as the correct one and others as deluded. We are all deluded in the same way and can never really be sure.
2.Tell us about yourself, your education, your experience. We would like to know you better.
I am 18 years old and live in Germany. I started with filmmaking, VFX, and 3d animation at age 12. After I finished school about a year ago I started an apprenticeship as a Filmmaker at a Film production. In my free time, I’m always working on my own short films. Although I like what I do during my apprenticeship I want to work on fictional stories and not on commercials in the future.
3. Has this film been previously appeared in any other festivals? If so, which festivals?
The film has appeared in these Festivals:
International film festival for children and youth “Hero”
First-Time Filmmaker Sessions @ PinewoodStudios
YOUKI International
4. How have you discovered members of your team and how do you keep the relationship with them strong?
I did my short films on my own until now so I don’t have any team members yet.
5. How do you usually get funding for your films?
The short films I made so far didn’t need any funding since I’m working alone. Everything I needed was a lot of time.
6. How did you hear about Tehran Short Film Festival? How familiar are you with Iranian cinema?
I first saw the Tehran Short Film Festival on Filmfreeway. I’m not at all familiar with Iranian cinema. I’m glad that I can discover it now, so the Tehran Short Film Festival will be a new experience for me.
