Interview with a filmmaker: “Simon Laganière” the director of the short movie “Mimine”

1.Tell us about your movie, where did the idea of this movie come from?

The inspiration for Mimine came from my personal experience as a father. I realized that even if we do our best to be a great parent, we are all imperfect.  The idea came also from the story of Larry Walter who accidentally flew in the air with his homemade installation made of balloons.

2.Tell us about yourself, your education, your experience. We would like to know you better.

I’m a filmmaker and a musician. I’ve mostly done short films and music clip. As a song writer, I made fews albums with my band, Les frères Goyette.

3.Has this film been previously appeared in any other festivals? If so, which festivals?

Mimine has been presented in few festivals in Canada and around the world. I’m really pleased to know that people from Iran would have the opportunity to see my film. It means a lot for me.

4.How have you discovered members of your team and how do you keep the relationship with them strong?

I discovered members of my team by seeing them in other projects. My two mains comedians are well known for their participations in nice films. It was a real pleasure to work with them. Now, I’m writing a new project with the same comedians. It might be a sequel.

5.How do you usually get funding for your films?

I had funding from governmental organization but I also make projects without funding. I don’t like to wait on money to do creation.

6.How did you hear about Tehran Short Film Festival? How familiar are you with Iranian cinema?

Here in Canada, we have a tremendous respect for Iranian cinema. We all know that this art his important for your nation. I heard about your festival in Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival.
