A Message of Condolences on the Demise of Distinguished Iranian Director Abbas Kiarostami

Abbas Kiarostami, the Iranian author & filmmaker whose “Taste of Cherry” won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1997, passed away on Mondayin Paris at 76. His death was a shock to all the Iranian nation.

Here is the message of condolences by Mr. FarkhondehKish, Head of TISFF:

Rest in peace the honorable man of Iran …

Oh, Master, enjoy the “Taste of Cherry” …

Oh, You the ever hall mark of peace and friendship,

eternal peace is yours “Through the Olive Trees” in paradise.

You left the “Home” and we do not know “Where Is the Friend’s Home?” anymore.

Who says “Life, and Nothing More”? Our cinema owes you all it has.

“The Wind Will Carry Us”, indeed all of us, but too soon you left.

Our “Homework” from now on would be repeatedly writing the word Pity, Pity, Pity…

“Break Time” is over, “The Experience” with you can not be repeated,

our “Bread and Alley” is bitter and dark,

Who says there are “Two Solutions for One Problem”? But there is only one!

to tolerate and accept the truth.

We deeply miss you the great man. Iran’s cinema does not have you anymore but your unique memories will linger on forever.

God bless you in the heavens, we leave you in the hands of Almighty God.
