Esmaeel Monsef
Born in 1975. He is a graduate of Behandish cinema school of Tehran. Member of the Editors’
Association and the Cinema House Short Film Association. Writing and directing. He made the
short films “Oyan” in 2009, “Under the Flag”in 2011, “Aghla” in 2013 and “Ardak” in 2015, the TV
movie “Tears and Prayers” for the French Arte channel, the documentary “Peace” in 2012 and the
movie “Kömür (The Charcoal) “in 2019.
Editing several documentaries, short film, and movies such as: “A Minor Leap”, “Borderless”,
documentaries: “I Want to Be A King”, “Recipe”, “The rock”, “Slowness”. Attending in the world
festivals as a director such as: Clermont, France, Telluride of America, Thessaloniki of Greece,
Chicago of America, Leeds of England, Winterthur of Switzerland, Pooneh of India, Fajr of Iran,
etc. Attending international festivals as an editor, such as: Cannes (France), Berlin (Germany), IDFA
(Netherlands), Hatdax (Canada), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Tampere (Finland), Tokyo (Japan), etc.
Winning foreign and domestic awards such as the best short film of the Trento Festival in Italy,
Jury Prize of Oriental Festival(Switzerland), Izmir Festival Jury Prize(Turkish), Award for the best
film at Athens Film Festival in Greece, Grand Prize of the Mountain Festival of Italy, Dhaka Festival
Jury Award(Bangladesh), Award for the best compilation of the Iranian Documentary Cinema
Association (Cinema House), Award for the best screenplay from Tehran Short Film Festival,
Award for the best short film at the varesh Film Festival, Award for the best short film from Parvin
Etesami Festival, etc.
